Editor’s notes: We’ve seen the Air Jordan 7 sport faux rabbit hair and even got the Patta treatment. But, we’ve never seen anything quite like Beth Birkett Gibbs’ Air Jordan 7s, which make the classic Jordan model and Nike’s ACG Air Mowabb look like they had a baby.
Under his brand Bephies Beauty ProductsGibbs arguably delivers one of the most creative take on the Air Jordan 7 I’ve ever seen, infusing the OG basketball shoe with a hiking sensibility.
Essentially, the Air Jordan 7 from Bephies Beauty Supply mimics that of a hiking shoe, touting a trail-worthy mesh inner bootie equipped with an adjustable rocker.
The BBS x Air Jordan 7 sneaker adopts a more durable boot-style ankle, complete with two parallel pull tabs – design details that obviously nod to the essence of the understated Mowabb.
Interestingly, Bephies Beauty Supply incorporates Air Huarache‘s signature heel clip on their collaborative AJ7s. Personally, it’s nice to see this detail placed on the AJ7, given that the model’s inner sleeve and overall dimensional design are inspired by the Huarache.
ACG mood? The unique, outdoor-approved mesh liner? Beth Gibbs’ involvement? Others may be on the fence, but I’m sold. I’ll take five please.
Founded by Gibbs in 2020, Bephies Beauty Supply — whose logo of a young girl wearing Bantu knots is stamped on the heel of the Air Jordan 7 — is a community space that shines a spotlight on creative black women and brands owned by the WOC rewriting the rules of beauty and fashion.
You see, much like the beauty offering, BBS has a way of bringing black women together to celebrate the beauty of individuality while preserving the preciousness of the overall black experience.
In addition to showcasing WOC businesses, the brand also offers its own in-house apparel and accessories, which have been featured on HBO. Insecure and stored at Nordstrom.
A longtime advocate for black women seizing their deserved place in the industry, Gibbs herself is a shining example of what she preaches.
Calling shots at UNION LA as co-owner alongside husband Chris Gibbs, Gibbs is a reverse birdie walking in misogynistic streetwear ways.
Gibbs defies the odds in an industry known for black creative erasure while creating a promising path for future black streetwear visionaries.
That being said, it should come as no surprise that Beth Gibbs’ Bephies Beauty Supply Air Jordan 7 drops as a women’s exclusive collaboration.
