KAWS x Cactus Plant flea market, endless archive collaborations
If last season was the summer of sacai, we are only scratching the surface of KAWS-Tober. The Brooklyn-based artist has been so active in collaborations over the past few months that it must be hard to catch his breath as a fan.
Well, Mr. Bones’ wild ride never ends, you know. According to the skeleton of last week Fortnite collaboration, KAWS launched a pre-order site for a spooky broadcast Companion collectibles and clothing.
In addition to the online shirts and Halloween skeleton hanging items, there is a bCactus Plant Flea Market collaborative t-shirt and Infinite Archives pajama set made to match. Companion imagery.
It’s very spooky and all that, but if you are hoping to decorate your home for a KAWS themed Halloween party, you’re out of luck: all of this being a pre-order, the goods will not be shipped. within a month – maybe even the end of November.
It’s not that it’s particularly difficult to get your hands on something KAWS related these days. Between the above Fortnite stuff, there was this COMME des GARÃONS SHIRT collection, perfume, PORTER bags, Reese’s Puffs, and even a new colourway of the upcoming KAWS x sacai x Nike Blazer Lows.
Fans seem to be eating it – almost every KAWS Instagram post announcing new products receives enthusiastic comments. The only one that drew mixed reviews was the Fortnite collaboration, which always elicited a lot of love but also generated a slight reluctance from fans who seemed to think KAWS was selling itself.
Considering that KAWS’s entire livelihood relies heavily on scrap toys and merchandise, I think we’re long past that point.
Personally, I am exhausted by the deluge of elaborations of KAWS, especially since it is rehearsals on a theme. Truly, KAWS is so big and popular that it can’t really drop too many t-shirts, perfume bottles, or cereal boxes – there’s a seemingly endless hunger for them.
KAWS is truly the ideal solution for mass market retailers like UNIQLO. There are already commentators on her Instagram asking for a new collaboration, in fact.
I feel like KAWS-Tober (KAW-Tumn?) Is just getting started, so better buckle up – we’re all on Mr. KAWS ‘Wild Ride.
