Matthew M. Williams NIKE SLIDE 005 Release Date

Over the past two years, slip-on shoes have exploded in popularity as people have adopted a “function over fashion” mentality due to the time spent indoors. At the same time, some of the biggest players in the footwear space have reinvented what slides, mules and other living room-appropriate designs can be, pushing the boundaries of a category that has remained relatively unchanged for more than a few decades. Recently, Matthew M. Williams revealed his proposal in the form of the MMW NIKE ZOOM 005 slide.

Williams, a Yeezy alum of Kanye West, has carved out a place for himself in Swoosh’s extensive product catalog. Favoring a brutal shape and rugged material, the co-founder of the 1017 ALYX 9SM brand has used Nike’s performance-based innovation to create forward-thinking takes that combine sport and style in unconventional ways. His latest project, a follow-up to the rather straightforward series of Air Force 1 Highs he’s been dropping throughout 2021, gives the accessible slide format an elevated aesthetic. Dual-foam outsoles provide enhanced comfort, while the stability plate wedged between them injects some stiffness for use outside the home. The foam upper features a series of perforations that allow for efficient breathability, working in tandem with the underfoot drainage holes to keep the wearer’s foot cool and dry. No Zoom Air unit is seen on the upcoming Matthew M. Williams x Nike project despite the inclusion of “ZOOM” in the slide name. Nevertheless, the same attention to detail found in the American designer’s other work is present on the MMW NIKE ZOOM 005 (dust bags included).

Enjoy a first look at the first pairs to come, and check out Williams’ slip-on proposals in “Black” and “Light Bone” early via on Friday, September 9.
