Michael Reagan: Russia is not our worst enemy | Columns

Everyone is watching Russia to see what their thug, Vladimir Putin, is going to do in Ukraine.

We ordinary citizens do not know if Putin is really going to invade Ukraine with the 127,000 Russian troops he has placed on its borders or if he is bluffing.

But the Biden administration — which belongs to the Neville Chamberlain School of Foreign Policy — also doesn’t know what Putin will do.

Biden just sent 3,000 troops to Eastern Europe not to fight the Russians but to show Putin America means business when it tells him not to take the Ukraine side he doesn’t. hasn’t taken yet.

This is Biden’s way of trying to be tough on Russia.

But if we had a real leader with courage and intelligence, we would tell Putin that if he does not withdraw his troops from the Ukrainian border within 72 hours, we will bankrupt him like we did in the 1980s.

We will shut down vital Nord Stream natural gas pipelines between Russia and Germany, reopen our Keystone pipeline, free our oil and gas frackers, and flood America and the rest of the world with lower-cost energy.

Biden opened the door for Putin last year by allowing the second Nord Stream pipeline, so now he should close the door by reopening our Keystone pipeline and telling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other congressional progressives to fly a deer -flying in a wind farm.

Many Democrats, liberal pundits and former CNN staffers who still believe Putin stole the 2016 election for Trump also believe Russia is still a military threat to us.

But despite its aging nuclear arsenal, it really is a run-down, impoverished ex-superpower with a lower GDP than Canada. There is nothing the West wants or needs except oil, natural gas and maybe caviar.

Russia doesn’t have the rubles or the gold to spend on a big war or even a small one, but China does.

Russia is not in the pocket of every other American either. But China certainly is — and I’m not just talking about its business partners who run the NBA or the Biden family.

Unless you’ve been living on a desert island in the Pacific since my father left Washington, you know that our entire economy is dangerously dependent on China and its factories.

Forget Chinese imports like iPhones, Nike shoes, and Black & Decker tools.

Just check where most of those home coronavirus test kits that Joe Biden promised he would send to each of us were made.

Of course, the most dangerous product that China exported to us – and to the world – was COVID-19.

It would be hard for Hollywood to invent something as crazy as this true story: China gives us a deadly virus that kills nearly a million Americans and then sells us boatloads of test kits that tell us if we caught it.

Meanwhile, it is communist China – not authoritarian Russia – that has been flexing its military muscles and extending its influence in Asia and around the world for a quarter of a century.

Chinese dictators have taken over Hong Kong and stifled most of its people’s freedoms.

Before that, they conquered Tibet – what Communist Party propagandists called the “peaceful liberation of Tibet”.

They have also built islands for military purposes in the South China Sea and recently intimidated Taiwan by flying warplanes into that free country’s airspace.

China has paid no price for the harm it has done to people outside or within its borders, not even for the oppression of 12 million Uyghurs, mostly Muslims, and the sending a million of them to concentration camps.

China should worry everyone on the planet, but it’s the Russians we’re supposed to fear? Like so many foreign policy “musings” of the Biden administration, it makes no sense.

So don’t worry about Russia starting World War III against Ukraine, folks.

World War III started decades ago. It’s us against China, not Russia – and we’re losing.
