Editor’s Notes: If you tilt your head slightly and squint really hard, you might mistake the Nike Swoosh for a smile. A sort of embarrassed, confused smile, but a smile all the same.

Nothing beats sharing a slice of positivity, and Nike has taken pleasure in doing so over the years with its slogan “Have A Nike Day”. Branding was central to Sean Wotherspoon’s Air Max 97/1 Hybrid – the phrase was stuck on t-shirts, campaign images, and the iconic Swoosh smiley was on the sneaker’s insole.

After a successful run over the years, Nike decided to retire the concept and usher in a new era of positivity with “Go The Extra Smile”. Fitting, given the constant presence of Nike on the tracks and roads of the world.

Bringing the uplifting message to life is a two-piece offering, led by the Air Max 90, Air Huarache and Air Force 1. Considered three of the brand’s most iconic silhouettes, having this trio up front – Keeping this deployment makes perfect sense.

Nike’s Air Force 1 features a simplistic design, keeping the shoe’s traditional white leather base and pairing it with black accents. A triple stack of smiley faces sits towards the heel in a bronze thread that compliments the gum-colored sole.

Likewise, the Air Huarache is dressed in black and white with contrasting pops of yellow and red at the heel and lining. This time around, the smiley face design is oversized on the tongue.

The pack is completed with a brightly colored Air Max 90, dressed in yellow suede and leather. Black and white accents frame the colorful midsection, with a single smiley face sitting above the Swoosh and the new tagline adorning the laces.
