Preview: Cactus Plant Flea Market “Grinch” Dunk

The credit belongs to House of Heat for unveiling a fur-covered Cactus Plant Flea Market x Nike Dunk Low inspired by everyone’s favorite holiday cynic, the grinch. Slated to release this holiday season, the playful partnership is sure to be one of the most hyped of the year.

As the culture of collaboration continues to thrive, the mark of what makes a buzz-worthy drop rises in tandem. Storytelling and nostalgia continue to be the driving force, but the same rotation of colors on the same handful of silhouettes no longer hits the mark.

This massive fatigue of collaboration opens the way to the unusual and the impractical, which CPFM masterfully achieves. Take the brand’s Swarovski-covered Dunk from 2020 or the next iteration with an exaggerated moss green midsole. This mixture of camp, fantasy, nature and sport is the CPFM DNA — a message that the consumer knows and expects — and the brand expresses it fully in his sneakers. This is how authentic, resonant and exciting collaborations are born.

The days of “reimagining” a sneaker in a few collegiate hues and throwing a punchy logo at it are dwindling. The texture and textile-focused sneakers feature the Air Jordan 1 crackle “Lost & Found” to the woven UNION LOS ANGELES x Nike Cortez, the lenticular CLOT Dunk High, the patchwork Billie Eilish x Air Force 1 Lows and the Air Women’s Jordan 1 in “Torsion 2.0” pony hair.

The textures don’t deserve all the credit, to be fair. Rather, it is the desire for novelty and the unexpected. Only time will tell how brands and creatives continue to reinvent sneaker collaborations, but if the faux fur that delicately sweeps the floor is any indicator, we’re on the right track.
