Editor’s Notes: Undoubtedly one of the most legendary silhouettes in Nike’s vast archives, the Air Max 90 has not only stood the test of time, but has been at the center of counter-culture movements in cities around the world. .
As the name suggests, the AM90 is an icon of the ’90s, and its clean panel design is unmistakably retro. Seen as a milestone in the Swoosh saga, the silhouette marks the third iteration of “Air†and a stepping stone to Nike’s global cultural relevance.
Originally designed as a performance running sneaker, the Air Max 90 has become a streetwear staple over the years.
Although it fades somewhat from the spotlight due to the importance of other mainstays like Air Force 1 and Dunk Low, the 90 has received regular updates and has maintained a constant presence thanks to Off- White and The Basement.
The latest addition to the sneaker’s long range of colourways is this next “Slate†iteration. So named thanks to its gray suede and mesh upper, the shoe features subtle pops of color through pops of blue on the tongue, Air unit and medial branding. The final touch to the utility color blocking comes in Black on the Swoosh and sole.
With new Air Max 90s like the one in the “Go The Extra Smile” pack, it seems like a constant stream of new colorways is on the way – and who could complain?
